I have long been a M. Ward fan, but admit to having drifted from him when he released She and Him with actress turned songstress turned betrothed of Ben Gibbard, Zooey Deschanel. I prefer his solo efforts and he does not let me down with his latest. Hold Time is due out next month and features M. Ward doing what he does best, picking guitar and crooning. Never fear, there is a duet with Deschanel, but that fails to impress next to his pairing with Lucinda Williams. The two of them mirror each other with weathered vocals on "Oh Lonesome Me". The last track on the album is an instrumental that is full of classic western soundtrack vibes and audio images of eating beans out of a tin can by the fireside.
